Digicon technology chosen for unprecedented project of the first 100% autonomous supermarket in Latin America operated by AI

Digicon is recognized for offering robust, innovative, and highly reliable technological solutions for different market segments. These aspects have qualified Digicon to participate in an innovative project developed by Grupo Muffato, the largest retail network in Paraná and one of the largest in the country, with 83 stores between retail and wholesale in 32 cities in Paraná and São Paulo.

In this partnership with Grupo Muffato, Digicon is providing equipment for the first 100% autonomous supermarket in Latin America, Muffato Go in Curitiba. This new concept of just go or friction-free, offers a technological immersion in shopping, where the consumer interacts directly with the store and the products.

The purchase process is very simple: when entering the market, the customer activates a QR code on the Muffato app and passes through the Digicon motorized gates. From this moment on, everything he takes from the shelves will be registered in the application.

The Sensei technology, a Portuguese company, detects when products are removed or replaced on the shelves, using sensor fusion, deep learning, and computer vision. When finished shopping, simply leave the store. The application registers everything being taken and sends the final value to the registered account.

Muffato Go is another project that reinforces Digicon’s profile in developing solutions for high-demand, responsible, and technically reliable markets. Therefore, Digicon was chosen with its dGate SW gate. The equipment not only controls entry but also automatically registers the exit, indicating that the shopping experience has ended.

About dGate SW:

  • Speed gate with swing type of doors and with flexibility of configuration;
  • Greater passage comfort due to the door movement that directs the flow according to the opening direction;
  • Equipment with bold design, sophisticated and safe.
  • Allows customization and eases the use of technologies of various types of readers and controllers, such as barcode reader with a slot for badge passage, barcode reader with multi-beam – entrance approach, 2D code reader (bidimensional), Wiegand/Abatrack proximity reader – HID/Indala/Acura, Mifare reader, and biometric reader.

According to director Everton Muffato, the launch of the first 100% autonomous supermarket in Latin America is a major step for the Brazilian supermarket industry. “We are eliminating queues and checkout, offering customers a frictionless shopping experience, faster and more convenient, freeing up members of our team to help with other aspects of the store.”
